Prill makes us proud
We were foot-stomping excited to hear that Bad Axes own Johnny Prill has a hand in a musical project that has been nominated for a Grammy.
The singer-songwriter has a composition in a CD project Not Just Another Polka, nominated in the category of Best Regional Roots Album. Polish Prince, a song based on Bobby Vintons 1978 autobiography, has earned Prill all the attention.
It is performed by Jimmy Sturr & His Orchestra.
Im excited. What a great way of getting exposure. I was just honored to be a part of the project, he told the Tribune this week. (Being) nominated for a Grammy is what every songwriter hopes for.

Jimmy Sturr: Recovered from 'slap in the face'
Jimmy Sturr has recovered from the disappointment of having his music lumped into the pop genre last year for the Grammy awards.
That was a slap in the face putting me up against Lady Gaga, Sturr said. Now I can be excited again.
It's been tough to peg Sturr's work since the polka genre was removed for 2010. Then, Sturr was lumped into the folk genre, which did garner him a nomination in the Best Traditional Folk Album category. The next year Sturr was inexplicably lumped into pop. But this year, Sturr is nominated for Best Regional Roots Album for Not Just Another Polka." Fits a little better.
I took the Beatles' Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da' and reworked it as a polka. It's all over YouTube, Sturr said. The musicianship is really great on this album and I'm fortunate to have a really great band.
The album was recorded and mixed at Bennett Studios in Englewood, N.J. He and Tony Bennett have kidded one another about who has won more awards, but if Sturr wins this year, he'll be in a rarefied strata only a handful of musicians have reached. With a win this year, Sturr will take home his 19th Grammy; he is currently tied in eighth place (with Pat Metheny) for the most ever by one artist. Sturr has been nominated 24 times. He notches up the quality of his awards against the quantity of his competitors.
Those musicians may have won three awards in one year for the same album, Sturr said. My Grammys have each been for the quality of an individual recording.

Denim and Diamonds Gala 2011 raises $85,000 for Winslow Therapeutic Center
The proceeds of the event, which also served to celebrate Winslows 37th anniversary, exceeded $85,000, an increase of $13,000 over last years event.
The cocktail hour, dinner, complimentary wine and beer, festive atmosphere and dancing to the music of 18 time Grammy-winner Jimmy Sturr and his orchestra were all major attractions. But the real reason people came and reached deep into their pockets for the live and silent auctions may have had more to do with knowing Winslow Therapeutic Centers work and its accomplishments.
